Windows XP installs MT5634ZPX_PCI as Actiontec modem

Windows XP will incorrectly identify the MT5634ZPX-PCI as an Actiontec V.90 PCI modem. Trying to Add the ZPX manually asks what COM port you would like to install it on (there may or may not be COM ports available on this screen) which results in a failed install or an install to a port it does not work on. Please see the below for a procedure to fix this until new firmware is released.

1) First open Start | All Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer
2) Then choose Tools | Folder Options and select the View tab
3) Check the "Display the contents of system folders" option and also under Hidden files and folders, select the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button. Just below that, uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types"
4) Navigate to My Computer | Local Disk | Windows | inf and find the file named MDMLUCNT.INF
5) Right-click and choose to Rename this file to MDMLUCNT.OLD
6) At this point you will receive a pop-up window stating "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?" Click the Yes button
7) Close Windows Explorer and go to Start | Control Panel | Printers and Other Hardware, click on Phone and Modem Options
8) Click once to highlight the Actiontec modem and click the Remove button below
9) At this point you will receive a pop-up windows stating "Are you sure you want to remove the selected modem(s) from your system?" Click Yes
10) Restart your computer and Windows XP will now recognize the 5634ZPX-PCI correctly
