When Outlook checks for new mail, the dialing process takes approx 25-35 seconds to connect to the ISP. However, Outlook times out in about 15-20 seconds when trying to talk to the POP3 server...it is not waiting long enough for the modem to connect.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I have observed that there is a timeout period on the RF102S of roughly 5 minutes of inactivity. I have set up Outlook Express 6 on one machine to dial up every 15 minutes to check for new mail. Thus Outlook checks at a time when the connection has already been disconnected. My problem is this: When Outlook checks for new mail, the dialing process takes approx. 25-35 seconds to connect to the ISP. However, Outlook times out in about 15-20 seconds when trying to talk to the POP3 server...it is not waiting long enough for the modem to connect! I have adjusted the Outloook account properties to allow for a 5 minute server timeout, but it is as if this setting is being ignored.

RESPONSE: This is a very common problem with outlook. Here is what you can do:

- setup the RF102S so it always connect, do not enable idle timeout

- setup some utility so it will ping the internet before outlook check the email

- use ISDN instead of modem, ISDN will connect much faster
