MultiTech Extends Connection Manager Support to Additional Modem Products

Solution simplifies installation, configuration and management of cellular connectivity.

Mounds View, MN – December 10, 2020 –Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading global supplier of Industrial IoT communication devices and solutions, today announced the latest expansion of products supported by Connection Manager to reduce complexity of connecting equipment to the internet when leveraging USB and serial cellular modems that lack the embedded intelligence to manage these functions on their own.

Connection Manager ensures that IoT edge applications using cellular backhaul can always communicate to the Internet whenever needed by ensuring the cellular connection is always ready for transmission, to enable smooth operation of real-world IoT use cases.

Traditionally managed by AT Commands, Connection Manager provides a much easier and faster method of managing serial and USB cellular modems to ensure persistent connectivity to the cellular network.

Connection Manager is integrated into Windows Networking, supporting Microsoft Windows 8 and 10 versions, and automatically detects installed cellular USB and serial devices, downloads required drivers, ensures com ports are correctly mapped and establishes a cellular connection – all at the click of a button. Its keep-alive function overcomes common issues that lead to dropped connections, and helps maintain a persistent cellular connection.

“By automatically downloading and installing the required drivers to support modem communications, Connection Manager makes large scale deployments a snap,” said Rick Bailey, Senior Product Manager. “It shortens the time required to install the modem and test the connectivity, and provides insight into signal level and data rates to help adopters optimize their connected application.”
