MultiTech Achieves First LTE Category M1 Device Approval for AT&T Network
Latest additions to MultiConnect® Cell 100 Series and SocketModem® Cell device families available today for AT&T customers
Mounds View, MN – January 8, 2018 – Multi-Tech Systems, announced today the first LTE-M devices approved for use on the AT&T LTE-M network.
The MultiConnect® Cell 100 Series is part of MultiTech’s comprehensive portfolio of cellular connectivity products optimized for M2M (machine-to-machine) communications. Easy to install and configure through AT commands, the MultiConnect Cell is ideal for failover, out-of-band management or primary internet connection over cellular. The MultiConnect Cell connects an intelligent appliance via a Serial RS232 or USB interface.
The SocketModem® Cell embedded modem is the industry’s top-selling operator certified, embedded, end product modem family. These new 4G-LTE Cat M1 (LTE-M) models offer peak upload and download data rates of up to 375 Kbps and are ideally suited for long lifetime IoT applications that require lower data rates (2G replacement) as well as battery- or solar-operated devices with improved range.
The MultiConnect® Cell 100 Series cellular modem and popular SocketModem® Cell embedded modem have been sampling to network operators and their customers evaluating new IoT applications or transitioning from legacy standards or proprietary technologies to the new LTE-M networks, and are now available for purchase. The new LTE Category M1 modems and devices are targeted at applications in industry verticals ranging from smart cities to energy, utilities, and factory automation, as well as healthcare. The new 4G-LTE Cat M1 models for AT&T are available for immediate shipments.
“MultiTech has a strong presence in the IoT and has been a longtime supporter of AT&T customers looking to get the most out of their IoT deployments,” said Cameron Coursey, Vice President of Product Development for IoT Solutions at AT&T. “It is no surprise to see them taking the lead in delivering devices to connect to our new LTE-M network.”
“We are delighted to continue our leadership driving the adoption and commercialization of LPWA technologies for the Internet of Things in lock-step with industry leading partners like AT&T,” said Daniel Quant, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing Strategy for MultiTech. “These first devices approved for AT&T build on our recent history of LPWA firsts supporting both 3GPP licensed and LoRa® technology-based unlicensed spectrum, as well as our long-standing commitment to delivering the solutions best suited to our customers’ needs.”
MultiTech will extend this new networking technology across its product lines to include the MultiConnect® rCell cellular router, QuickCarrier® USB-D dongle and MultiConnect® Dragonfly™ Nano Arm® Mbed™ OS-programmable embedded system-on-module families of products.
